Victor Kiplangat has won Uganda a gold medal at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary on Sunday morning.

This comes a year after clinching Uganda’s first medal at the 2022 Commonwealth games in Birmingham.

The 22-year old ran fastest in the Marathon(42km) to scoop gold after posting 2:08:52 to beat off Isreal’s Maru Teferi, who clocked 2:09:12 to win silver and Ethiopia’s Leul Gebresilase (2:09:19) who won bronze.

The other Ugandan runner Stephen Kissa fell down in the same race but came 5th as Andrew Kwemoi did not finish.

This is Uganda’s second Gold medal in the Marathon at the games after Joshua Cheptegei who won the 10,000m on track, earlier in the games.

Uganda will be hoping for more gold medals at this year’s Championships with eyes set on Oscar Chelimo, Halima Nakaayi and Peruth Chemutai.
