Narrow margins as Busoga College Mwiri edged Masaka SS in the Skyview Schools Cricket week at the Jinja College School in Jinja.

Busoga side, Mwiri won the game by two wickets but Masaka SS won the toss and elected to bat first due to the ground conditions setting a score of 73/7 in the first innings for Mwiri to chase.

In the second innings, Mwiri were up to the task batting well as they tried their best to chase down the score later going on to spare two batsmen.

Tendo Rayan put up a splendid performance on the day putting up three runs in nine balls.

After the game, a happy Masaka SS Captain Geoffrey Kakaire was glad that he’s side played good cricket;

“I would like thank the organizers of the schools cricket last night we were gambling with which group we were going to be in but we landed in Mwiri’s group, the Champion of last year’s edition.”

“We came to play this game knowing that we had already lost since we knew how hard the Mwirians were in Cricket but fortunately we have so far played good Cricket”  he added

On where they lost the game, Kakaire concluded by saying that;

“We lost the game from the fielding bit dropping only one catch that would take one player of the pitch so that we could bowl the rest quickly and win the game.”

On other side, the Mwiri Captain Edwin Nuwagaba was convinced that it was their batting line up that won his side the game;

“The pitch where we played from wasn’t that good since it was our first time and didn’t know how it was working but at least we told our bowler not to bowl short but put the balls in the right channels.” he said

“That helped us limit them to that (73/7) score line but we lost so many wickets since we never followed instructions with our heads up and down.” he added

“But what helped us to win was our batting line up risking one senior player to stay behind and win us the game and managed to win.” he concluded

Busoga College, Mwiri and Masaka SS lay in Group A alongside

Ndejje SS,Delhi Public School International, Jinja SS, Ntare School, Teso College, Aloet and Kilembe SS
