The 2022 Total Energies Women Africa Cup of Nations will be back underway this Tuesday at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium, Morocco as the Crested Cranes take on the hosts, Morocco at 11pm EAT.
The Crested Cranes are bottom of Group A with a -2 goal difference and no point after a 2-0 loss to the Teranga Lionesses (Senegal) courtesy of goals from Diakhate Ndeye and Nguenar Ndiaye
Uganda will be hoping to put all that went wrong in their first game right, most especially the dis organization in their defence and missing of lots of chances the most notable one being that one on one by Fazila Ikwaput with goalkeeper
Speaking to the press in Morocco, Crested Cranes head coach George Lutalo came out to say that his team is ready to take on the hosts;
They are the hosts but we are ready and prepared to take them on. We made some mistakes in the first match and we hope to rectify them and also be able to utilise our chances that we create.
We are going all out to win all game, we do not have any serious injury in camp. We are really motivated to have the best game.
With aim of automatically qualifying for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand the Crested Cranes will have to strengthen their squad in order to boost their chances of get to the knockout stage.
It’s only the top two teams in each group that move to the Quarterfinals meaning that out the three groups only six teams will progress a will be joined by two teams (the third best placed teams among in the three groups).
On the other side, is a well coached Morocco team that will always have cheers at home by the home crowd kick-started the campaign with 1-0 win over Burkina Faso on Saturday night through Captain Ghizlane Chebbak free kick.
In this game, Morocco were the best team and could have more goals on the day having played a possession game to weaken the Burkina Faso ladies.
With both Uganda and Morocco returning to this stage for the first time since 2000, they will all want to improve their record in the competition with Atlas Lionesses aiming at taking the trophy.
