SC Villa edged Express FC 1-0 in a Kampala derby at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo, on Friday night to deepen the Red Eagles’ struggles in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League.

On a wet pitch, chances were limited until Villa struck in the 15th minute when Frank Ssebuufu rose unchallenged to head home Najib Yiga’s corner. It proved to be the decisive moment in a tight contest.

Express enjoyed more possession but lacked urgency and cutting edge. Their best chances fell to Muhammad Ssenoga and substitute Mikidad Ssenyonga, both denied by an assured performance from Villa goalkeeper David Lukwago.

Villa remained disciplined after the break, managing the game well and seeing out the win with maturity.

The result leaves Express 11th on 12 points after a third straight defeat, while Villa climb to third on 26 points, level with KCCA FC.

Express next host Buhimba United Saints on January 23, with Villa visiting BUL FC a day earlier.
