Uganda Cranes set to miss CHAN 2023

Two months after U23 National Team (Uganda Kobs) withdrew from the 2023 U23 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, Uganda Cranes CHAN team is set to follow the same path.

The development was confirmed by the FUFA President Eng. Magogo Moses via his Twitter page on Monday 12th December , citing financial hardships.

“Like for the U23, we are left with no further option but to withdraw the Uganda Cranes from CHAN finals because Ministry of Finance has not provided the funds as appropriated by Uganda Parliament” he wrote

“The sanctions to Uganda will affect the future if we dont take the hard decision now. Sorry for the players and coaches who qualified the team but it is the moment to face the reality.” he concluded

The Cranes were scheduled to face Dr Congo on 14th January 2023 in their first game at the finals  where they were placed alongside Senegal, Democratic Republic Congo and Ivory Coast.

The second was to be played on 18th January against Senegal and third on 22nd January.

The 2023 CHAN tournament Cup will be hosted by Algeria .
