- Uganda Cranes Select 1-0 SC Villa
The Uganda Cranes Select team secured their place in the semifinals of the FUFA Super 8 Cup following a decisive 1-0 victory against SC Villa this evening at MTN Omondi Stadium in Lugogo.
Having won the first leg 2-1, the Cranes side only needed a draw to advance.
Sports Club Villa came out strong, pressing in the opening minutes.
In the third minute, Jonah Patrick Kakande missed a close-range chance following a counter-attack, with the ball cleared off the line.
Villa continued to dominate possession for the first 20 minutes, with Hakim Kiwanuka missing from close range in the 25th minute.
With consistent chances falling their side, Peter Onzima too struck a powerful shot in the 28th minute but it was skillfully saved by Derrick Ochan the Cranes’ keeper.
This forced a Cranes made a triple substitution in the 38th minute, bringing on Kato Samuel, Cleophas Fiat, and Joseph Akandanwaho for Bwangani, Gift, and Ramsey Kawooya however the first half still ended in a goalless draw.
At the start of the second half, the Cranes immediately made more changes, with Hakim Mutebi and Ivan Ahimbisibwe replacing Hassan Ssenyonjo and Isaac Ogwang.
The Cranes began to dominate possession and their efforts paid off in the 55th minute when Samuel Kato scored a header from a corner kick, extending their aggregate lead to 3-1.
Villa pushed hard for an equalizer, with a notable save from the Cranes shot stopper  Ochan denying a goal in the 60th minute.
Despite Villa’s increased pressure towards the end of the match but were unable to find the back of the net.
A late chance for Elvis Ngonde in the 65th minute was also thwarted by the Cranes’ keeper.
The match concluded with a 1-0 victory for the Uganda Cranes Select, who will now face SC Vipers in the semifinals.
Earlier on in the first game, BUL FC triumphed 3-0 over Maroons at the same venue advancing to the FUFA Super 8 semi-finals where they will face Kitara FC.
Isaac Wagoina scored a brace with goals in the 30th and 53rd minutes, while Dickson Mataama netted in the 33rd.
Maroons struggled, managing only one first-half attempt by Brian Omirembe.
