KCCA forward Mohammed Shaban came off the bench to score the winning goal as Uganda Cranes defeated Botswana 1-0 on their return to Namboole Stadium on Friday evening after a nearly five-year absence.

Shaban’s goal was a masterclass in teamwork, with fellow substitutes Bobosi Byaruhanga and Denis Omendi combining to set him up.

Byaruhanga’s long ball from the center of the pitch found Omendi on the right flank, who then delivered a low cross that Shaban finished off from close range.

Despite dominating the match, Uganda struggled to create clear-cut chances, with Fahad Bayo and Elvis Bwomono wasting the few opportunities that came their way in the first half. However, Shaban’s well-taken goal ensured that the Cranes’ dominance was rewarded.

This victory sees Uganda level on points with Algeria, Guinea, and Mozambique in Group G, with six points from three games.

The Cranes will face Algeria on Monday evening at Namboole, aiming to build on this momentum.
