Uganda Cranes edge closer to quarterfinal stage

Minutes after MTN announced their return as the official sponsor of the national team for the next five years, Uganda’s second won their second CHAN game since 2013 against Burkina Faso.

On a rainy Wednesday night, Uganda Cranes beat Senegal 1-0 to go top of group in the African Nations Championship (CHAN) at the 19th May 1956 Stadium, Annaba- Algeria

Cranes’ only goal was scored by Milton Karisa in the 33rd minute as Cranes but goalkeeper Nafian Alionzi was the Starman on the day after he saved Cheikh Sidibe’s penalty.

In the same game, Cranes’ Karisa had a penalty decision overturned by VAR after Karisa was pushed in the area.

Senegal however finished the game with one man less after Libasse was shown red with ten minutes left on the clock.

Later on in the game, wonder kid Travis Mutyaba was brought onto the pitch and showed some glimpses of shere quality but Micho’s introduction of Kenneth Ssemakula was huge for the team,taking home the Man of the match award.

With four points, on top of the group unlike other CHAN editions Uganda will have more hope this time to move to the quarterfinals if they win their remaining game of the group.
