Islamic University In Uganda (IUIU) played out a goalless draw against Kampala International University in the University Football League match. This is the first time KIU has managed to pick a point from IUIU.
The first scoring opportunity in the game fell to IUIU’s Chemutai but his effort was saved by the KIU custodian Opio Moses in the early minutes of the game.
The hosts IUIU dominated play in the first stanza of the game but failed to put the ball behind the net.Opio organized his backline with a commanding effort as he went on to make a couple of saves.
In the second half of the game, Ramathan Musema had a golden opportunity to put the hosts ahead when he found his way through the KIU defense but his shot went over the cross bar.
Opio was so vital for a point as he committed himself to a couple of saves from the high attacking IUIU forwards as we came to the end of the game. He also received a yellow card for time wasting.
The last time the two Universities were pitted together in the group stages was in 2018 and IUIU managed to complete a double against KIU. They won the 1st leg 1-0 away at KIU and the return leg ending in 2-0 in favour of IUIU
KIU now sit in the second position with 5 points in group B whereas IUIU who have managed to gather 4 points in the three games,sit 3rd of the log. Uganda Christian University (UCU) top the group with 7 points and Kumi University occupy the 4th position, yet to gather a point.
