U20 World Athletics Championships: Uganda off to good start

Uganda got off to a good start at the World Athletics U20 Championships 2024 taking Place Lima, Peru with two bronze medals on the opening day.

Charity Cherop registered team Uganda’s first medal coming 3rd in the women’s 5,000m with a season best time but Ethiopia’s Medina Eisa who defended her title and broke the tournament record, another Ethiopian Mekedes Alemshete finished second.

Kenneth Kiprop brought home the second bronze after a tight finish in the men’s 5,000m final behind Kenya’s Andrew Alamisi and Abdisa Fayisa of Ethiopia.

The tournament is taking place in the Peruvian capital from 27th-31st of August and Uganda has a team of 10 athletes representing it;

Jacob Sande (1,500m), Samuel Simba Cherop (1,500m & 5,000m), Titus Musua (3,000m), Herbert Kibet (3,000m), Kenneth Kiprop (5,000m), Hosea Chemutai, (3,000 Steeplechase), Kezia Chebet (3,000m), Charity Cherop (5,000m), Nancy Chepkwurui, Loice Chekwemoi (3,000m Steeplechase)
