The South Sudan U17 team has been disqualified from this year’s U17 AFCON/ CECAFA Zonal qualifier tournament in Rwanda.
The development was confirmed on Friday night after four of South Sudan U17 players failed to pass Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) test conducted by the tournament organizers and CAF medical team before the tournament.
MRIs have been used by FIFA since 2003 to ensure players are eligible, by scanning the bones in their wrists.
South Sudan was due to face the defending champions Uganda Cubs in the opening game of this year’s tournament on Saturday afternoon at the Umuganda Stadium in Rubavu, Rwanda.
Therefore, now only 6 teams will feature in this year’s tournament with Uganda pitted in group A with Kenya and Ethiopia while group B consists of hosts Rwanda, Tanzania and Djibouti.
Meanwhile, all 20 players of Uganda U17 squad passed the MRI test conducted on them on Friday.
