Wakiso Giants FC, more commonly known as the Purple Sharks have subjected UPDF FC to a third loss in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League following a 1-0 win on matchday 10 at the Kabaka Kyabaggu stadium, Wakiso.
Wakiso Giants gained the lead in the 12th minute after stylish winger Titus Ssemakula converted beautifully from the spot after UPDF FC defender James Begisa Handled the ball in the forbidden area.
The purple sharks could have extended their lead in the 14th minute but Moses Aliro’s shot went wide
The intensity of the game increased with the visitors pushing for an equalizer but several shots from hard-tackling midfielder Okello Donato all went wide.
UPDF’s closest chance came in the 33rd minute of the game when Ivan Ahimbisibwe’s brushed header went a few inches off the pos.t
The purple sharks almost sent the game to break with a two-goal lead but Brian Bwete pulled out a heroic save to deny Frank Ssebufu’s free header inside the box.
The army side dominated proceedings of the second half but the purple sharks were as hard as the attacks directed to them.
The introduction of youthful winger Sabir Yasin for the army side caused an immediate impact on the game as his first shot was parried away by Wakiso’s Emukule
Bwete pulled off yet another save to keep Hassawa Wasswa Dazo’s fired shot
The sharks held onto their lead to till the last minute and climbed up the table to 4th place while UPDF dropped to 5th place
