Wakiso Giants were not shy at expressing how ruthless they can be on Friday evening as they humiliated once table leaders UPDF FC to a 5-1 loss in a StarTimes Uganda Premier League game played at the Kyabaggu Stadium, Wakiso.

The Purple sharks started the game the brightest and within the first three minutes, they were awarded a penalty following a reckless tackle by Brian Kayanja on Vianney Ssekajugo in the forbidden area. Joseph Lubwama stepped up and did no mistake to hand his the homeside an early lead, sending UPDF goalie Yusuf Wasswa the opposite direction.

Moments later, the Purple Sharks could have been two goals up but youngster Frank Sebufu placed his diving headed ball wide after being spotted by Lubwama at the far post.

Two minutes afterwards though, Wakiso Giants doubled their lead after Ivan Bogere reacted to Hassan Wasswa’s header that rattled the crossbar to slot home his first of the game during a moment that can only be described as clamsy defending by the Wakiso defense.

The third for the Purple sharks came in the 41st minute after George Kaddu’s long throw landed onto Ssebuufu to head in with very little resistence from the visitors.

Just before the halftime break, Bogere got his second of the game and wakiso’s fourth after he notched in from close range following a looping header from Ssebuufu.

The visitor’s best attempt in the opening half fell to Brian Kayanja but Samson Kirya made a brilliant save to deny the talismanic forward.

The game went into the break with the hosts holding a commendable 4-0 lead over the visitors.

At the beginning of the second half, UPDF head coach Kefa Kisala introduced Brian Kalumba with hopes of pulling some goals back, but instead disaster hit them again in the 69th minute as Ssekajjugo got his name on the score sheet after Wasswa spilled the ball into his path to tap into an empty net.
