StarTimes UPL Recap: UPDF FC enjoys early lead as league breaks off for CHAN

The StarTimes Uganda Premier League will take a break of almost a month as local based players will be preparing for the CHAN tournament which will start in January next year. At the moment UPDF FC enjoys the top of the table after picking up victory in the forces derby on Matchday five.

We take a look back on all of the games played on Matchday five.

KCCA FC 1-2 URA FC – MTN Omondi Stadium

The Kasasiro boys succumbed to their second consecutive loss of the season as Sam Ssimbwa’ s coached side URA FC collected all the taxes in an entertaining encounter coming from a goal down to bag all the three points.

League top scorer Brian Aheebwa took his tally to seven goals as he put the hosts ahead before Benjamin Nyakoojo headed in from a corner to draw the game level. URA FC’s skipper Shafiq Kagimu tapped in from close range to win the game for the tax collectors as early as the first stanza.

Wakiso Giants 2-2 Solitilo Bright Stars – Wakisha Resource centre

The purple Sharks are now becoming the new stalemate masters, having drawn all their first five league games. They shared the points with Bright Stars in a 2-2 scoreline at their home Wakisha Resource centre. Vianney Ssekajugo and Ibrahim Kasule registered their names on the score sheet for Wakiso Giants as Rashid Sempala and Joseph Janjali netted for the visitors to burry the game at level.

Express FC 1-0 SC Villa – Muteesa II Stadium

The mukwano gwa bangi is now boasting the derby bragging rights in the VEK teams after picking up a narrow victory over the Jogoos who had recently won against the Kasasiro boys on Matchday four. George Ssenkaaba’s lone strike was enough to earn Wasswa Bbosa’s side all the three points at the Muteesa II Stadium in wankulukuku.

UPDF FC 1-0 Police FC – Bombo Army grounds

The Forces derby acted as a top of the table clash which has been hard to comeby in recent years. This season both Police FC and UPDF FC have had a good start in the league vying for the top three spots on the table. UPDF FC through Patrick Kabuye’s goal came out victorious which took them at the top of the table with 12 points from five games dropping just three (against Kyetume FC) from the possible 15.

MYDA FC 3-3 Mbarara City FC – King George IV stadium

Malaba based side MYDA FC picked up their first point of the season in a high scoring draw against Mbarara City. The game ended with a 3-3 scoreline. Mbarara city welcomed the return of Makweth Wol with a brace as Bashir Mutanda netted in added minutes to get his first goal for the Ankole lions. Norman Ojik scored a brace and Nsimbe Ibra completed the goals for MYDA FC.

Kitara FC 1-3 Onduparaka FC – Kavumba Recreation grounds

Onduparaka has now gained momentum in the league. Despite the 8-0 thumping at the MTN Omondi stadium, Lugogo, by KCCA FC, they have managed to avoid defeat in their last three games, getting away with a 3-1 win away against Kitara FC. Gabriel Matata scored a brace for the Caterpillars while Kabon Living continued with his scoring form, netting the third. Brian Mayanja scored the only goal for Kitara FC.

Kyetume FC 1-0 BUL FC – FUFA Technical Centre Njeru

The sunrise result of the day was a narrow 1-0 victory of Kyetume against on form BUL FC at FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru the same pitch which both teams use as their home ground. Baker Buyala scored the only goal for the slaughters of Kyetume FC as they picked up victory.

Busoga United 3-5 Vipers SC – FUFA Technical Centre Njeru

An eight goal thriller which saw the defending champions of Vipers come out as winners scoring five against resilient Busoga United. Paul Mucureezi netted a brace as Karim Watambala, Geoffrey Wasswa and Milton Karisa all bagged a goal each for Vipers SC ease off pressure from the gaffer Fred Kajoba. Busoga United goals were scored by George Kasonko, Ibrahim Mugulisi and Paul Ssekulima.

The league breaks off on Matchday five though some teams have played less games due to Vipers SC engagement in the CAF champions league playoff games, missing the first two match days.

Only five teams including URA FC, Kyetume FC, Express FC, Vipers SC and Wakiso Giants are yet to register a loss though the purple Sharks haven’t won a single game alongside Busoga United, Kitara FC, MYDA FC and Mbarara City.

The league is expected to return on the 12th February 2021 with match day six games .
