Wakiso Giants head coach Douglas Bamweyana is optimistic for a better start as his side pays a visit to Police FC at the MTN Omondi Stadium in their opening game of the 2020/2021 Uganda Premier League season.
Bamweyana says he is well prepared this time around at Wakiso Giants and has set sights on the top four finish at the end of the season.
“We have prepared well and ready for the new season. Our target is to perform well and anything below the fourth position will be a disappointment for us,” Bamweyana said.
The early club preparations saw Wakiso Giants strengthen their squad with new recruits of goalkeeper Samson Kiirya, midfielders Owen Kasule, Edward Saturo, and lanky forward Joshua Lubwama.
Despite the fact that Wakiso Giants come with a beefed-up squad, they will play their first game of the season without the services of Tom Matsiko, Pius Kaggwa, Ayub Kisalita, William Katende, and Alex Komakech who are ruled out with injuries.
Police FC under Abdallah Mubiru managed to complete a double against Wakiso Giants last season registering a 2-1 scoreline on both occasions and come into this game with a lot more new faces new at the club than their opponents with Tony Mawejje being the most notable addition.
Abdallah Mubiru is also eager to improve on the team’s overall performance from that of last season as they only managed to finish just above the relegation zone.
“We have had enough preparations. The boys are raring to go and we want to start on a good note because that will give us a picture of what we shall do for the rest of the season,” said Mubiru.
Police FC also captured the services of Muwadda Mawejje who will be facing his former employees.
