Midfielder Ashraf Mugume came off the bench to net a brace for KCCA as they overcame Wakiso Giants 3-2 in their first game of the 2022/23 StarTimes Uganda Premier League.
Mugume, who was introduced on just before the break for injured Emmanuel Wasswa had his first goal in the 52 minute before he rounded off KCCA scoring in the 84th minute.
Godfrey Wasswa netted the other KCCA goal while Tom Matsiko and Ibrahim Kasule had Wakiso Giants’ goals in losing effort.
KCCA had the first realistic attempt at goal but Mohammad Shaban headed wide a wonderfully driven in Brian Majwega cross.
Few moments afterwards, Wakiso Giants had a chance of their own bit Sharif Kimbowa failed to beat KCCA goalkeeper Ali Mwerusi.
The game went into the break goalless despite KCCA having dominated the proceedings.
Just after the break, KCCA were rewarded for their pressures as Mugume got onto the back of Moses Waiswa’s cross to strike in.
The Kasasiro Boys doubled their lead after the hour mark as Wasswa rose highest to head in a Saidi Mayanja corner.
After nice linkup play with Moses Aliro, Kasule pulled a goal back for the purple sharks to half the deficit heading into the last 10 minutes.
But Mugume restored KCCA advantage just immediately afterwards after being setup by Usama Arafat.
Before the final whistle though, Matsiko converted from the spot to put the score at 3-2 after Frank Ssebufu was fouled in the forbidden area by John Revita.
KCCA held on in the late exchanges of the game to secure a hard-fought victory at home.
The Kasasiro Boys play Arua Hill in their next league game while Wakiso Giants will hosts Maroons next.
