StarTimes UPL: Leku the hero as Arua Hill upsets leaders Vipers


Striker Alfred Leku netted early on in the game as Arua Hill SC defeated Vipers SC 1-0 in a StarTimes Uganda Premier League game played on Tuesday evening.

Leku’s strike came in the 10th minute to secure all three for the Kongolo over the league leaders.

From arguably their first attempt on goal, Alfred Leku headed in a well driven Gaddafi Wahad cornerkick to give Arua Hill the lead in the tenth minute.

Wahab found Leku unmarked who easily headed past the Vipers custodian Fabien Mutombora.

After that opener, the game was far from entertaining as the home side, Arua Hill resorted to a combative and physical approach to the game.

Despite dominating proceedings, Vipers struggled to fashion enough goal scoring chances upfront. Their best chance fell to Milton Karisa who shot agonizingly wide after being excellently put through by Yunus Ssentamu in the 37th minute.

One-nil and the game went into the break with the hosts holding a slim lead.

Just like the first, the second half was also short of chances as Arua Hill had answers to almost all Vipers attacks.

Karisa was calamity of poor decision making in the 58th minute as he opted to pass the ball to a teammates when he had a chance to score.

Vipers tried to get an equalizer in the later exchanges of the game but the Kongolo held on to secure maximum points.

Vipers,who have endured their second loss of the season remain top of the log with 29 points in 12 games.

Arua Hill goes to 24 points in 14 games and now occupies fifth place.
