SC Villa defeat Soltilo Bright Stars 2-1

Sports Club Villa has tamed Soltilo Bright Stars to end its first round of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League with a 2-1 win, a seventh of the 15 games played so far.

Substitute Nicolas Kabonge secured all three for the Jogoos adding on to a Benson Wagima own goal after Akandwanaho had equalised for the hosts at the Kavumba Recreation centre.

Edward Kaziba’s side started the game on a high, immediately piling pressure on Bright stars in the early minutes of the game, a moment that granted them the game’s opener following an own goal by Benson Wagima who was unfortunate to deflect in a Fred Agandu cross that hit the crossbar and onto his back.

Soltilo Bright Stars then capitalized on a defensive mistake by the SC Villa backline to net an equaliser just a minute after Villa had taken a lead in the game. It was a case of poor communication by goalkeeper Meddie Kibirige and his defenders who failed to clear a loose ball in their penalty area to let Joseph Akandwanaho react to tap in from close range.

SC Villa players were wasteful in the remaining minutes of the first half failing to convert numerous scoring opportunities that kept the home side in the game till the recess.

The Jogoos returned for the second half a more serious side dominating the early minutes, a feat that granted them the lead when substitute Nicholas Kabonge pounced onto a loose ball resulting from another Wagima error who spilt the ball back into play after saving a Mohammed Ssenoga headed ball from going in.

Akandwanaho who was the best player for Bright stars on the day failed to secure a point for his side as he missed a late chance opportunity in front of goal.

The win leaves SC Villa occupying in 7h position with 25 points same as 6th placed Police FC whereas Bright Stars sit in the 10th position with 17 points as the league breaks off for the first round.
