StarTimes UPL: Jackson Mayanja faces former employee Mbabazi as Kyetume takes on Mbarara

The StarTimes UPL continues on Wednesday after matchday 27 brought a goal galore between MYDA and BUL FC. MYDA’s relegation from Uganda’s top-flight league was confirmed after they lost 6-1 to BUL in Tororo, while the battle of the 5th place ended in stalemates as Police drew 1-all with Bright Stars in Lugogo.

At the Nakisunga Ssaza Playgrounds, Mukono, relegation-threatened Kyetume FC hosts Mbarara City in the only game of the day, that will see Jackson Mayanja face-off with his former employee Livingstone Mbabazi.

Kyetume FC sits third from bottom on the standings with 23 points garnered in 26 games, just three below the survival line with four games to go.

For Mbarara City are ninth on the log with 35 points and are assured of playing top-flight soccer next season.

Last result

Before the break, the Slaughterers suffered a 1-0 defeat to SC Villa away from home, courtesy of Mohammad Ssenonga’s strike, while the Ankole Lions garnered their third consecutive victory after a vital 1-0 win over Police in Mbarara.

Record in the last five games.

Kyetume has won just once in their last five league games, beating on at URA 1-0 in Nakisunga. They have lost thrice and drawn once.

For Mbarara, they have won thrice and lost only once in that period, a 3-1 defeat to Bright Stars at Kavumba.

In their 13 games at home this season, Kyetume has won 5 of them, draw three and lost the others, while Mbarara has also been a howler on the road, winning just three of their visits, drawn thrice and lost the rest.

Head to Head

This will be the fourth meeting between the two sides with Mbarara City holding the edge, having won two of them, while Kyetume has won the other. The reverse fixture in the first leg ended in a 3-1 victory for Mbarara City. Forwards Wol Makueth, Swalik Bebe and Henry Kitegenyi scored a goal each to ensure victory for the Ankole lions.

What a win could mean

A victory for Kyetume over Mbarara City could take them tentatively out of the relegation as they would move to 26 points, leapfrogging Busoga United who currently sit 13th on the log.

While if Mbarara defeats Kyetume, they would move two places up to seventh on the log as they would get to 38 points.
