StarTimes UPL: Bbaale penalty earns SC Villa victory over Arua Hill in Barifa

Forward Charles Bbaale scored a penalty early on in the second half to secure SC Villa an important 1-0 victory over Arua Hill on Saturday.

Bbaale’s penalty came after Arua Hill’s defender Richard Matovu deliberated handballed on the goalline to stop Seif Baate’s effort that was heading into goal with goalkeeper Richard Anyama well beaten.

Center referee Asadu Ssemere was left with no option than to give Matovu his matching orders and gift Villa a chance to go ahead from the spot. The striker stepped up and calmly converted after sending the goalkeeper the wrong way.

Before that penalty, the game was far from interesting as both sides struggled to fashion any reasonable goalscoring chance upfront due to their cagey approach to the game.

After conceding, Arua Hill got a couple of brilliant chances to put the scores level but were unluckily denied by Meddie Kibiringe, who was outstanding in-between the Jogoos sticks.

He saved Sam Ssekamate’s hard shot in the 50th minute before making a brilliant save to parry away Gadaffi Wahab’s freekick moments later.

Isaac Ogwang was also denied by Kibiringe after he was fed through by Sekamatte.

Arua Hill almost found the equalizer with the last kick of the game but defender Bright Vuni skied high his effort from close range to the dismay of all his teammates.

Victory takes Villa to fourth place on the log with 14 points garnered after eight games and will play KCCA next. Villa were docked two points and two goals after their fans violence against Wakiso Giants.

Arua Hill on the other hand stays seventh with 10 points in seven games.
