StarTimes UPL - Wakiso Giants 2-1 BUL FC

Abdul Kimera produced a howler of the season contender as Wakiso Giants FC completed a double over BUL FC following a 2-1 victory at Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium, Wakiso on Tuesday evening.

Shortly after Jimmy Kulaba spurned a glorious opportunity to put the Jinja based side ahead, Kimera guided a Frank Ssebuffu low cross into his own net to give the Purple Sharks a surprising first-half lead.

Moments later, BUL could have gone level with the hosts, but Joseph Semujju blazed a one-on-one opportunity above the crossbar.

After making three substitutions at the start of the second half, Alex Isabirye’s BUL dominated proceedings in the early exchanges but their quest for an equaliser seemed to be doomed as they failed to convert from the few chances they garnered. Musa Esenu had his shot parried away for a corner kick by Samson Kirya just before the hour mark.

It was rather Wakiso Giants who got the second of the game after a George Kaddu long throw-in was slotted in by Vianne Ssekajugo at the far post to extend his side’s lead.

Kaddu almost turned from goal provider to goalscorer when his sublime effort from outside the box rattled the crossbar with Kimera.

With 13 minutes left on the clock, BUL pulled a goal back through Joseph Ssemujju who received the ball from Jimmy Kulaba to put it past Kirya in the Wakiso goal.

This result means Wakiso Giants has completed a double over BUL FC in the league, having also beaten Alex Isabirye’s side 1-0 in the reverse fixture.

The victory takes Wakiso Giants to 7th place with 33 points, while BUL FC stays 11th with 27 points.

Douglas Bamweyana and his charges will hope to build on today’s win as they travel to Tororo to take on MYDA on Friday. BUL FC on the other hand will be home to Onduparaka FC.
