StarTimes UPL 2020/21: Busoga and Kitara miss more than just playgrounds as fixtures are released

2021 StarTimes UPL

Busoga United and Kitara FC have not been included in the fixtures released for the upcoming 2020/21 Startimes UPL for failure to meet multiple minimum requirements for club licensing.

FUFA and the UPL Secretariat on Friday 20th November released the draft fixture for the first round of the 2020/2021 season with only fourteen teams excluding Busoga United and new comers Kitara FC.

According to our sources close to the Federation, some of the reasons why Kitara FC were denied this season’s license included; not having an academy, their CEO not being a signatory to the Club’s account, no contracted coach and approved stadium among others.

On the other end, Busoga United were also found lacking in multiple areas notably; not having a contracted coach, anomalies with player licensing, no registered academy and playing ground (after Kakindu failed to meet the grading standard for the upcoming season), and have like Kitara not made any payments as required by the process.

It is believed the Federation is awaiting on the two clubs’ response by Monday 23rd November 2020 before taking the final decision on their fate for the upcoming season.

The released 2020/21 StarTimes UPL fixture has 2019/2020 champions Vipers SC opening their tittle defense on Thursday 3rd December against new comers MYDA FC at the St. Mary’s stadium, Kitende.

Last season’s tittle contenders KCCA FC will start the season with a short trip to stubborn Soltilo Bright Stars who are also yet to confirm their home ground.

Rejuvenated mukwano gw’abangi Express FC and Waiswa Bbosa start the season with a long trip to West Nile to take on Onduparaka FC at the Green light stadium on Saturday 4th December.

The mighty SC Villa start the season away at BUL FC at a yet to be confirmed stadium.

The second day of the fixtures will be completed with Police FC hosting Wakiso Giants in the first game of the season at the newly renamed MTN Omondi Stadium Lugogo while Mbarara city will take on URA FC on the 6th December.

New comers of UPDF FC will start their journey in the 2020/2021 SUPL on match day three as they host BUL FC.

Though the draft fixture is out, seven clubs of the 14 have not yet addressed their home grounds to the UPL Secretariat. These include SC Villa, Mbarara City, BUL FC, Kyetume, URA FC, Bright Stars and new comers UPDF FC.
