Paul Mucureezi and Milton Karisa were on target on Wednesday evening as Vipers defeated Mbarara City 2-1 at Kakyeka Stadium, Mbarara in the Stanbic Uganda Cup semi-final first leg.

The Vipers pair netted their goals in first half to ensure the Venoms took a slim advantage into the second leg.

Seiri Agumaho netted a late consolation for the Ankole lions which might prove vital ahead of the second leg at Kitende next week.

After a slow start by Vipers, the Venoms took the lead in 40th minute through Mucureezi who got his shot past Muhammad Ssekebba.

Before the stroke of halftime, it was two for Vipers as Karisa was quick to pounce on a rebound after Mucureezi’s initial shot was punched back into play by Ssekeeba.

Just after the break, Mucureezi had a chance to get his second of the game and Vipers’ third, but his shot got cleared off the line.

After that, Vipers struggled to create any other meaningful chance as they were pugged back by the Ankole lions.

The Venoms finally succumbed to pressure in the 82nd minute, allowing Agumaho to pull a goal back for Mbarara after an excellent Sadat Nsubuga’s cross.

The two sides will meet again for the second leg next week with the aggregate winner advancing to the final to be played in Masindi.

In the other semi-final, BUL FC obliterated Booma 5-1 in Masindi on Tuesday.
