Entebbe UPPC and Maroons settled for a goalless draw in their Uganda Premier League encounter at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo, on Wednesday.

Clear-cut chances were hard to come by as both sides remained disciplined defensively, eventually sharing the spoils after neither could find the breakthrough.

The hosts provided the first real threat after 12 minutes when left-back Thomas Ochungo unleashed a powerful effort, but Maroons goalkeeper Derrick Ochan was equal to it.

At the other end, Entebbe UPPC goalkeeper Denis Otim was called into action six minutes later, comfortably gathering Emmanuel Obua’s delivery from the left.

Maroons came close in the 28th minute through defender Derrick Basoga, whose effort from inside the area forced Otim into a fine save to turn the ball over for a corner.

With the game struggling to open up, Maroons made an early double change as Ronald Orombi and Jackson Nunda replaced Dickson Niwamanya and Brian Nkuubi Ssemakula before the break.

The deadlock remained intact heading into halftime.

Entebbe UPPC head coach Abdallah Mubiru responded five minutes after the restart, introducing Ambrose Kigozi for Steven Munguchi in search of more attacking threat.

The hosts continued pushing, with Calvin Peter Emayu sending a long-range free-kick over the bar before Kigozi dragged another effort narrowly wide.

Maroons were then forced into a change in goal when Ochan limped off around the hour mark, with Emmanuel Derrick Were taking his place.

Mustafa Anwar Ntege was later introduced for Ibrahim Mugulusi as Entebbe UPPC increased their search for a winner.

Emayu went close from a tight angle before Reich Kokolo fired over from distance, while substitute Julius Poloto also provided fresh energy down the flank in the closing stages.

UPPC applied pressure late on through Ntege and Kigozi, but Were and the Maroons defence stood firm to preserve the clean sheet and secure a point.

The draw leaves Entebbe UPPC fourth with 15 points from eight matches, while Maroons move to 11 points and sit seventh.

Elsewhere on Matchday Eight, Mbarara City stunned defending champions Vipers 1-0 at Rwamwanja Stadium, while KCCA came from behind to defeat Lugazi 2-1 at the MTN Omondi Stadium in Lugogo.
