URA FC have confirmed the return of experienced coach Sam Ssimbwa as their new head coach, replacing Jimmy Kintu Mwera at the helm of the Tax Collectors.
Ssimbwa, commonly known as “Omulangira,” has signed a one-year renewable contract and returns to a club he previously managed between 2018 and 2021.
During his first spell, the veteran tactician turned URA into genuine title contenders, coming closest to winning the Uganda Premier League in the 2020/21 campaign when the Tax Collectors finished second behind eventual champions Express FC.
His return comes as URA look to steady their campaign following a difficult start to the 2026/27 Uganda Premier League season.
Ssimbwa arrives with vast experience from across Ugandan and East African football, having previously coached Express FC, KCCA FC, SC Villa, Kitara FC, Tusker FC, Sofapaka, Simba SC and the now-defunct SC Victoria University.
He also previously served as an assistant coach with the Uganda Cranes before leaving the national team setup in November 2025.
There will be little time for Ssimbwa to settle in, with his first assignment coming immediately as URA host UPDF FC on Tuesday at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo.
The club confirmed that Ssimbwa will begin working with the team immediately, while his backroom staff will be announced in due course.
