Islamic University In Uganda rallied from a goal down to edge ten (10) man Busitema at the Busitema University grounds on Friday evening.
Onongo Dennis and Tamubula Ismael scored IUIU’s two second half goals in a space of three minutes after Waduuma Derrick netted for the hosts in the opening half.
Ten (10) minutes into the game, IUIU forward Kawooya Shafik charged down the left before cutting inside to pick out Tamubula Ismael at the far post but the winger couldn’t connect to the first clear cut chance of the game.
The Islamic University continued to pile on the pressure as Otim Calvin whipped the ball into the box from a free-kick but it’s headed clear by Aapa Jona at the half hour mark.
However two (2) minutes later, Busitema arose through Oola Gerald who found Waduuma Derrick with a lovely ball, to charge down the right but had his effort blocked by Twesigye Robert.
In the 34th minute, Waduuma with a close tap-in, slotted the ball home having met Christopher Okite’s great cross to give the Baboons a lead.
Five minutes to close the opening half, Waduuma managed to find Owino at very close range in front of goal but his effort was deflected wide to finish the stanza 1-0.
Into the second half, Imam Kawooya’s shot from the left forced Busitema goal keeper Ongu Emmanuel to get down to deny the visitors a goal just 55 minutes on the clock.
With IUIU mounting a serious challenge on the hosts a second bookable offense for Waduuma Derrick was sighted as the Baboons have been reduced to ten men at the hour mark.
In desperate search of an equalizer, Kawooya forced Ongu into two continuous actions, pushing one over the bar and gathering another low effort in the 70th and 80th minutes respectively in the fight to protect their lead.
Three minutes later Onongo Dennis met Emmanuel Shikanga’s free kick to level matters for the visitors only for Tamubula Ismael to double the lead with a beautiful strike from the edge of the box to make it 2-1 with five minutes left to play like he did in the 10th Edition.
The victory meant that the visitors IUIU collected maximum points and lead Group A with three points and a difference of one goal.
