New Vision, a prominent media company, emerged victorious in the 2024 Standard Chartered Cup one-day tournament, defeating MTN Uganda 1-0 in a thrilling final held at Phillip Omondi Stadium in Lugogo on Saturday, 7th September 2024.

The only goal of the match came courtesy of forward Julius Kafuluma, whose precise strike secured New Vision’s victory and earned them a coveted ticket to Anfield, Liverpool, in the United Kingdom. Kafuluma’s match-winning goal sealed his team’s triumph in this high-stakes final.

This year’s tournament marked the 7th edition of the Standard Chartered Cup. New Vision advanced to the final after a commanding victory over Steel & Tube, while MTN Uganda secured their spot after a dramatic 3-2 penalty win against Uganda Breweries.

With a record-breaking 40 teams participating in this edition, the tournament was structured into 8 groups of 5 teams each. To facilitate faster progression, matches were played in a unique format, with each team participating in 10-minute, five-a-side games, allowing for rapid advancement.

The tournament’s four mini-pitches, each measuring 40 x 30 meters, were named after current Liverpool FC stars to add an extra layer of excitement to the event. The pitches were as follows:

  • Pitch 1: Mohamed Salah

  • Pitch 2: Alisson Becker

  • Pitch 3: Virgil van Dijk

  • Pitch 4: Trent Alexander-Arnold

Individual Accolades

The 2024 Standard Chartered Cup also recognized outstanding individual performances:

  • MVP: Julius Kafuluma (New Vision)

  • Top Scorer: Emmanuel Nsubuga

  • Best Goalkeeper: Karim Kamoga

Karim Kamoga was honored with the Best Goalkeeper award, which he proudly received in a special ceremony following the final.

The top three teams in the tournament were awarded trophies and medals, with MTN Uganda receiving their prize in a spirited ceremony. However, it was New Vision that ultimately claimed the grand prize: an all-expenses-paid trip to the United Kingdom.

This extraordinary prize includes a visit to the renowned Liverpool Academy, a meet-and-greet with a Liverpool FC legend, a live match at Anfield, a tour of Melwood, and an immersive experience at the Beatles Story and the Liverpool Museum. The prize package also includes three nights’ accommodation, meals, and various exclusive perks and treats.
