New dawn tips off as FUBA sign multi billion deal with betPawa


Uganda Men and Women National basketball teams the Silverbacks and Gazelles received a boost from local betting brand betPawa, which is set to sponsor the teams for the next three years.

All this was put out in an announcement made on Wednesday morning at the Fairway Hotel in Kampala in the presence of some National team players and Media.

betPawa a brand under Mchezo Limited injected UGX 2.6 Billion in to Federation of Uganda Basketball Associations (FUBA) for the next two years.

The costs to be covered under this partnership include team training, travel and accommodation to attend tournaments. In addition to that medical insurance and supplements among others as said by the betPawa’s Chief Branding Officer Spencer Okach.

Thé betting entity will also pay the players UGX 150,000 per match for every win their team gets under their flagship Locker Room Bonus.

Locker Room Bonus is a direct reward to players by the sponsor for winning matches, as a way of boosting their morale and recognising great performance.

FUBA CEO Marcus Kwikiriza came out to affirm the patnership going on to say that;

“This is the first time our players are getting an incentive such as the Locker Room Bonus
and also the first time in East and Central Africa that a private company is sponsoring
a national basketball team.”

betPawa Chief Commercial Officer Ntoudi Mouyelo stated that this patnership is a timely one given the global spotlight on the game;

“This will increase players’ exposure to top clubs at home and abroad as betPawa will support them in attending tournaments where they can showcase their skills.”

“With Uganda Silverbacks recently being ranked by FIBA as one of the most
improved countries by ranking, moving up four spaces to position 83 out of 160; we
see huge potential here.”

betPawa also sponsors the game of football in Uganda have a hand in the BetPawa Futsal League, betPawa FUFA Big League and FUFA Drum as well.
