UPL: NEC completes double over Maroons FC

Matchday 21 of the StarTimes Uganda Premier league, witnessed NEC Football club hosting Maroons Football club at Mtn Philp Omondi Stadium and NEC managed to beat Maroons 2:1 to claim the Victory.

In the initial 15 minutes, fans were treated to a closely contested match as both teams vied for dominance on the field.

However, in the 20th minute, a foul in the box led to Joseph Dhata Lujang calmly converting from the penalty spot in the 22nd minute, sending the goalkeeper the wrong way and putting NEC in the lead.

Despite a promising run by NEC FC’s Brain Kayanjya towards the goal, Maroons’ goal keeper pulled off a remarkable save to maintain the score at 1-0.

NEC’s lead was further extended in the 39th minute by Allan Mugalu, adding to the team’s momentum.

The goalkeeper for Maroons FC Nalugonda Amir showcased exceptional reflexes, denying another goal line attempt in the 42nd minute from a powerful shot by Rwothomio Cromwell.

As the first half concluded with NEC leading 2-0, the early moments of the second half saw a subdued pace of play with few clear chances for either side.

However, in the dying minutes of the match, Maroons managed to narrow the deficit with a goal from substitute Mpagi Kajubi.

Despite Okocha missing a golden opportunity to equalize in additional time, the final score stood at 2-1 in favor of NEC.

Allan Mugalu’s standout performance earned him the well-deserved Player of the Match award.

With this victory, NEC FC secured a double over Maroons FC, cementing their position in third place.

Meanwhile, Maroons FC remains in 6th position. This result sees NEC FC climbing the ranks, displacing Vipers, who have played three games fewer than NEC FC, showcasing the team’s determination and skill on the field.
