KCCA FC have ended an eight-year wait for major silverware after beating NEC FC 1–0 to win the FUFA Super 8 at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo.

Saidi Mayanja’s first-half penalty separated the sides in a tightly contested final, giving the Kasasiro Boys their first trophy in eight years.

The decisive moment came in the 35th minute when the referee awarded KCCA a penalty after Daniel Shabene was deemed to have fouled Yunus Sibira inside the NEC box.

NEC strongly disputed the decision, but Mayanja kept his composure amid the protests and sent Hannington Ssebwalunyo the wrong way to put KCCA ahead.

The goal came shortly after NEC had missed a good opportunity to take the lead. Richard Basangwa had found himself with a promising chance but could only head wide.

NEC returned from the break determined to level the game and spent much of the second half pushing KCCA back.

KCCA, however, had a chance to extend their advantage in the 55th minute. Emmanuel Anyama created the opening for Sibira, but the midfielder failed to keep his effort below the crossbar.

As the final entered its closing stages, NEC increased the pressure in search of an equaliser.

Their best opportunity arrived six minutes from time when Enrique Lubwama unleashed a powerful effort from distance. KCCA goalkeeper Mutwalibu Mugolofa reacted quickly, diving to his left to keep the ball out and preserve his team’s advantage.

NEC could not find a way through in the remaining minutes as KCCA saw out the game to lift the FUFA Super 8 trophy.

The victory gives KCCA an important piece of silverware at the start of the season and ends a prolonged period without a trophy for one of Uganda’s most successful clubs.
