Maroons FC produced a dominant display to defeat Uganda Premier League newcomers Kataka FC 4-1 at Muteesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku, on Tuesday.
Abel Michael Eturude and Fred Amaku set the hosts on their way before second-half substitutes Darious Ojok and Jackson Nunda added their names to the scoresheet, with Latif Senkubuge grabbing a late consolation for Kataka.
Maroons started on the front foot and nearly found the breakthrough inside the opening 10 minutes when Amaku fired over from close range.
Baden Mujahid Ogama was then denied by Kataka goalkeeper Solomon Okello as the hosts continued to pile on the pressure.
The breakthrough finally arrived in the 19th minute when Eturude connected with Emmanuel Obua’s long throw to head home at the back post.
Kataka struggled to trouble Maroons at the other end, although Isaac Owinyi sent a long-range free-kick over the crossbar as the visitors searched for a response.
Maroons carried their slender advantage into halftime before taking firm control of proceedings shortly after the restart.
Amaku doubled the lead in the 52nd minute with a composed finish, leaving Kataka with a mountain to climb.
The hosts then turned to their bench, introducing Ojok and Nunda in the 72nd minute, and the changes quickly paid dividends.
Ojok needed only five minutes to make his mark, calmly beating the advancing Okello to put Maroons 3-0 ahead.
Nunda went close to adding a fourth when his attempted lob struck the crossbar, but the midfielder soon got his goal in spectacular fashion, firing a superb left-footed effort from distance to put the contest beyond Kataka.
Senkubuge pulled one back deep into stoppage time, but it proved nothing more than a consolation for the Mbale-based side.
The victory was Maroons’ third in seven league matches this season and lifted them to 10 points.
Kataka, meanwhile, remain in search of their first Uganda Premier League victory. The newcomers have collected just two points from their opening seven matches, suffering five defeats in the process.
