Entebbe UPPC FC snatched a dramatic late point after Reich Triomphe Kokolo scored a 93rd-minute equaliser to force a 1-1 draw against BUL FC in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League at the FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru on Saturday.
BUL looked set to take all three points after Alex Kitata had put the hosts ahead shortly before half-time, but Kokolo struck in stoppage time to deny them victory.
The hosts broke the deadlock in the 42nd minute when Simon Achidi delivered a cross into the penalty area, allowing Kitata to finish from close range and give BUL a 1-0 lead at the interval.
UPPC returned for the second half determined to find an equaliser and nearly got one immediately after the restart. However, BUL goalkeeper Wokorach produced an important save to preserve his side’s advantage.
The visitors continued to push for a way back into the contest, while BUL made several changes in an attempt to protect their lead.
With the game heading towards its conclusion, UPPC made a decisive substitution in the 92nd minute, introducing Mitrail Ndza Sam Ruthefield for Thomas Ochungo.
The change paid off almost immediately as Ruthefield delivered a cross into the box, which Kokolo met with a powerful header in the 93rd minute to level matters.
It was Kokolo’s second goal of the season and capped an impressive individual performance that earned him the Man of the Match award. The forward was, however, booked for removing his shirt during the celebrations.
The result means BUL remain third on the league table with 20 points, while UPPC sit fourth on 16 points.
BUL will look to return to winning ways when they host SC Villa on November 3, while UPPC travel to face Ntugasaze on November 5.
