Junior Gazelles, Junior Silversbacks qualify for 2024 FIBA U18 African Championships

Uganda sealed double qualification for both Boys (Junior Silverbacks) and girls (Junior Gazelles) at the FIBA U18 AfroBasket Zone V Championship Finsls that we’re held at the Lugogo Indoor Arena on Friday.

All this was done in the presence of Uganda  football Legends Dennis Onyango and Simeone Masaba who were spotted in the crowd cheering on the girls and boys.

The Junior Silverbacks beat Rwanda 69-66 in a very competitive final that saw both sides go toe to toe for glory inside a filled Arena.

Despite being five (5) points down at half time the game saw the boys fight back in a tight contest that got them a point ahead by the third quarter end.

These helped the boys qualify for the FIBA U18 African Championships for the third time after 2016 and 2018.

On the other hand, Junior Gazelles too qualified for the 2024 FIBA U18 African Championships that will take place in Jo’burg, South Africa.

The girls achieved this success after they  beat Rwanda by a 30 point gap, 82-52 in the Zone V Final at Lugogo to win trophy.

Unlike the boys this will be the girls fifth (5th) appearance at the tournament after 2008 (Tunisia), 2016 (Egypt), 2018 (Mozambique) & 2022 (Madagascar).

Both teams are expected to rest for a small while and get back to camp for training ahead of their final tournaments in August.
