Silverbacks coach George Galanopoulous has termed his team’s win against Cape Verde as the greatest feeling he has ever experienced in his career.
The Silverbacks, inspired by Ishmail Wainwright held on and outclassed Cape Verde 101-98 in a tightly contested 2021 AfroBasket qualifiers game at the Ittihad Arena, Alexandria on Sunday night.
Wainwright had a game-high 36 points,Jimmy Enabu and Deng Deu had 17 points each while Robinson Opondo shot in 16.
“Our two wins this weekend meant alot to not only this group but to a country of Uganda”Galanopoulos said before adding;
“This group and the basketball in Uganda are moving in a positive direction and all I can say is that am very grateful to be a part of something so special with a great group of people who are pooling for the same goal.”
“The win last night was the greatest feeling I have personally had with the basketball team before and the players that are involved with Ugandan basketball are some the best people I have ever been around”

The Silverbacks will now head into the second qualification window in February 2021 with two wins garnered against Morocco and Cape Verde with the top three teams from Group E set to qualify for the FIBA AfroBasket finals in Kigali, Rwanda.
