Uganda’s National Basketball team, the Silverbacks head coach George Galanopoulous says everyone in the current training camp is working extremely hard in preparation for the FIBA AfroBasket second window qualifiers.

The Silverbacks’ local based players under coach Mande Juruni, started training early this year at Africa Bible University in Lubowa ahead of the second window in Tunisia due February 19th -21st.

“I have been in constant contact with both our coaching staff and players in Uganda, and everyone is working extremely hard in preparation of this upcoming window,” Galanopoulous told FUBA head of Communication Arnold Katabi.

On the Silverbacks chances of qualification for AfroBasket finals in Rwanda, Galanopoulous says he is confident his team can, but still, there is alot of work to done.

“We are confident in our team, but there is still alot of work to be done between now and the games. We are playing against very good opponents and each game will be difficult so we need to be ready for that.”

“We expect to be better on both ends of the floor specifically defense in an effort to continue to improve moving forward.”

The Silverbacks head into the second qualification window in Tunisia with two wins garnered against Morocco and Cape Verde in the first window which took place in Alexandria, Egypt last year.

After the second window, the national teams that finish in the first three places of each group qualify for the 30th edition of Africa’s premier basketball competition, which will take place in the Rwandan capital of Kigali from August 24 to September 5.
