Moments after securing qualification to the 2021 AFCON U20 final tournament, Uganda’s U20 football team’s captain Gavin Kizito Mugweri is confident that the Hippos can clinch the 2020 CECAFA U20 title.

Uganda defeated Kenya 3-1 in the first semi-final of the CECAFA tournament in Arusha, Tanzania on Monday afternoon to progress to the finals, and automatically qualify for the 2021 AFCON U20 tournament in Mauritania.

Kenneth Ssemakula opened the scoring while Ivan Bogere netted in each half as Uganda ousted Kenya at the Black Rhino Academy Stadium.

“I thank the Almighty for enabling us to win our semi-final game against Kenya and consequently qualify for AFCON,” Gavin Kizito told FUFA media before adding;

“Even though the qualification is sealed as I promised, I am also confident that we are going to work hard and fight for this trophy so as to return to Uganda as champions.”

Uganda will face reigning champions and hosts Tanzania in the CECAFA final at the Black Rhino Academy Stadium on Wednesday evening.

Tanzania defeated South Sudan 1-0 in the other semi-final played on Monday evening courtesy of Kassim Haruna second-half strike.
