FUFA express readiness to host CECAFA Senior Women’s Championship

In a press conference on Wednesday, the Chairperson of the Local organizing committee Hon. Florence Nakiwala Kiyingi who is also the FUFA 3rd Vice President has expressed  readiness to host this year’s CECAFA Senior Women’s Championship.

It will get underway on the 1st of June and run for ten days ending on 11th June 2022 at FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru.

The Championship will have eight teams confirming participation as confirmed by the Chairperson in a press conference at the FUFA house, Mengo.

Hon. Nakiwala cemented the Federation’s readiness to host the tournament.

FUFA is proud to host yet another Championship and we would like to express our readiness in welcoming the rest of the teams that have confirmed participation. As the local organizing committee, we have everything set and cannot wait to get the tournament underway.

When asked about the security of the girls, she replied and added that;

We are aware of what happened with the girls from the Eritrean team and Police is still following the case “with smiles” she replied, but this time Eritrea is not here. We have got a security car to lead each and every team to the venue.

Lastly she was asked on whether it’s a mandate that every player and the other people around will have to be tested for COVID-19. She concluded by saying.

We expect that all teams will undergo COVID-19 PCR tests before the start of the tournament and we shall have the same arrangement during and after. As organizers, we don’t want to give any chance and that is why we are sticking to observing the standard operating procedures.

With eight teams slated to participate in the tournament, the confirmed teams will start coming into the country on Friday, 27th May Djibouti expected to be the first and the second team in Tanzania will come in following day since they come in on bus.

Uganda is in group A with Rwanda, Burundi and Djibouti while group B has Tanzania, Zanzibar, South Sudan and Ethiopia.

The host team (Uganda) ‘s mission of the tournament is the Total Energies AFWCON Morocco

There will be two games played everyday in the morning and evening. The fixture is as below;
