Kitara FC has qualified for the FUFA Big League playoff final after eliminating Mbale side Kataka FC in penalty shoot-outs at the FUFA Technical center Njeru.
It was the first time Kataka were playing at the playoff stage and were facing a Kitara side that is featuring for the second time (falling to Paidha Black Angels in 2016/17 at the final)
The two sides played out to a goalless draw after normal time and were sent straight into the shot-outs with Kitara emerging victorious on 7-6.
Phillip Sempiira, Samuel Adibo, Patrick Mugume, Docca Musa, Denis Monday, Maxwell Owachgiu, and Daniel Patrick Ekuyu scored Kitara’s penalties while Peter Lumoro’s was saved by Edward Kasibante.
Kataka’s skipper Peter Lusimbula missed the last penalty while Yusuf Ezama missed the other – Mukisa Emma, Joel baba, Wadenga, Sekasana, and Nandala had scored for the Mbale region side.
Kitara FC will now face the winner between Ndejje University FC and Kiboga Young (Mbale Heroes) in the final on the 21st of October 2020 at the same venue.
Kitara qualified in second place of the Rwenzori group, level on points with Ndejje University when football was brought to a sudden halt due to the coronavirus crisis.
The Mark Twinamasiko coached side won six, drawn four, and lost only 1 of the eleven games they had played so far garnering 22 points.
