The Lions of Teranga beat Ecuador 2-1 to become the first African nation to qualify for the round of 16 at the ongoing 2022 FIFA World Cup on Tuesday.
This is the second time Senegal have gone past the group stages since 2014.
This happened after they won two games and lost the other to finish behind Netherlands in the second place of Group A.
Ismaila Sarr was the man of the moment as he gave Senegal the lead through a 44th penalty after he was fouled in the box.
In the second half, Moises Caicedo equalised for Ecuador in the 67th minute when the ball met him alone in the area and did no mistake but to slot it home.
However, it didn’t last long as, a header from Kalidou Koulibaly restored Senegal’s lead three minutes later after a great free kick.
After a long good contest of football, they managed to hold on to till the final whistle something that confirmed that their time at the World Cup is not yet done.
Africa will still have high hopes in Ghana and Morocco to go past the groups.
