Uganda’s women’s basketball champions, JKL Lady Dolphins have made a great start to this year’s FIBA Africa Women’s Basketball League Qualifiers in Zanzibar by winning both their opening games.
After their stunning 91-54 victory over Burundi’s Young Sisters in the opener with just five players available. They dominated Tanzania’s Vijana Queens 87-55 in their second match.
JKL Lady asserted their dominance from the start against with a 21-14 opening quarter advantage. Stretching their lead furthermore in the second quarter by 25-6 to take a commanding 26-point lead (46-20) at halftime.
Vijana attempted a comeback in the third quarter, outscoring JKL 21-15 to trim the deficit to 20 points. However, JKL regrouped and sealed the win with a 26-14 fourth-quarter performance.
Becky Longom stole the show on the night with a double-double of 19 points and 17 rebounds, Rita Imanishimwe and Brenda Ekone also joined in on the scoring party with 15 and 14 points respectively.
JKL will now face their real test at the tournament with their last group game on Wednesday against Al Ahly, the Egyptians have also won their opening games by 134-35 and 145-52 against Young Sisters and Vijana Queens respectively.
