Ethiopia: Federation declares 2019/20 Premier League season null and void

The Ethiopian Football Federation (EFF) has today, 5th May 2020 announced the cancellation of the Ethiopian Premier League due to the high spread of the coronavirus in the country. The decision was made after a meeting between the Ethiopian Premier League executive committee and the Ethiopian government officials.

The decision to cancel the league has left no winner announced and no team will be relegated or promoted. The Federation has also pulled out of the ongoing CAF club competitions of 2020/2021 since there will be no representation for the country.

This comes at a moment when the league that consists of 14 teams had just reached matchday 17 with table leaders, Fasil Kenema on 30 points, just one ahead of second-placed Mekelle 70 Enderta. Hadiya Hosaena occupies the last slot on the log with 14 points garnered from the 17 games.

Ethiopia now joins Burkina Faso, Mauritius, Angola and Guinea as the countries to have already cancelled their respective leagues without champions due to the pandemic.
