Diaspora: Nsibambi stars as Kizito and Lubega strike again – how Ugandan professionals fared over the weekend


Edrisa Lubega, Derrick Nsibambi, and Luwagga Kizito were on target again, while Mukiibi assisted. Fahad Bayo debuted for Ashdod as they lost their opening fixture of the Israeli Premier League – how Ugandan players fared abroad.

In Israel, Forward Luwagga Kizito scored the winner as Hapoel Kfar Saba edged past Hapoel Tel Aviv 2-1 on matchday one of the Israel Premier League.

The 26-year old started the match and found his mark in the 79th minute, tapping the ball into the back of the net. Omer Fadida’s first-half strike had been canceled out by Tel Aviv’s Omri Atman in the 68th minute.

Forward Fahad Bayo made his debut and defender Timothy Awanyi played full-time as their team, Ashdod SC lost 2-0 to Ironi Kiryat Shmona. Bayo came on in the 79th minute for Dean David.

In Estonia, Edrisa Lubega continued his sublime form as he was once again on the scoresheet as Paide Linnameskond beat JK Tammeka Tartu 3-1 in the Estonian Meistriliiga.

In Sweden, defender Ronald Mukiibi started and provided an assist as Ostersunds held on to defeat Falkenberg 2-1 in the Swedish Allsvenskan while his teammate, Isaak Ssewankambo was suspended for the game after receiving four yellow cards.

Alexis Bbaka featured for 69 minutes as his side Umeå FC defeated IK Brage 1-0  in Swedish Superettan.

Patrick Mulyanti was on the scoresheet as IFK Åmål played out to a 1-all draw with Stenungsunds FK in the Swedish Division 2.

The 22-year old found the back of the net in the 48th minute before his goal was canceled out in the 58th minute by Gustav Kjellström.

Allan Zzizinga featured as his side, FC Gute lost 2-1 to BK Forward in the Swedish Division 2.

Viola Nambi came on in the 55th minute as Växjö DFF lost 3-1 to Vittsjö GIK in the Swedish Damallsvenskan.

Ritah Kivumbi wasn’t in the matchday squad as her side, Mallbacken drew 1-1 with Bollstanäs SK in Sweden’s second division, Elitettan.

In Scotland, Bevis Mugabi played full-time as his side, Motherwell FC lost 3-0 to Celtics FC in the Scottish Premiership match played at the Celtics Park.

In the Czech Republic, Isaac Muleme played full-time in Viktoria Zizkov’s 3-0 win over Vysehrad FK in the Czech National Football League.

In France, Dereck Kutesa started and featured for 60 minutes as his Reims FC side fell 1-0 to Lille FC in the French Ligue 1.

In Denmark, Robert Kakeeto came on in the 63rd minute as AaB Aalborg came from 3-1 down to defeat Randers FC 4-3 in a build-up match.

Moses Opondo featured for 45 minutes as Odense Boldklud lost 2-1 to AC Horsens in Pre-season friendly match.

In the USA, Mike Azira came on in the 84th minute as his side, Chicago Fire lost 3-1 to New York City FC in the Major League soccer.

In England, Uche Ikpeazu Mubiru featured as his side Wycombe Wanderers were thrashed 5-2 by Premier League side Aston Villa in a behind closed door friendly in the Midlands.

Defender Elvis Bwomono started and featured for 77 minutes as his side, Southend FC lost 3-0 to Championship side Millwall in a pre-season match at Roots Hall.

In South Africa, Moses Waiswa continued to sit out with an injury as his side, SuperSports United lost 2-1 to Orlando Pirates in the Absa Premier Super league.

Denis Onyango wasn’t in the matchday squad as Mamelodi Sundowns endured a 1-0 loss to Baroka Swallows in the other Absa Premier Super league game.

In Egypt, Derrick Nsibambi’s tremendous form continued as he was involved in 2 of Smouha’s goals in their  3-0 win over Tanta SC in the Egypt Premier League game played at the Alexandria Stadium.

In the first minute, the Ugandan forward assisted Egyptian Sherif Reda for Smouha’s first before getting on the scoresheet himself in the 43rd minute.
