Diaspora: Kawesa and Mubiru hand Basena first win as Ikpeazu and Lubega assist – how Uganda professionals fared over the weekend

Hood Kawesa and Yafesi Mubiru were on target as Moses Basena claimed his first league win this season in Rwanda while Uche Ikpeazu Mubiru and Edirisa Lubega provided assists for their respective sides as league action continued over the weekend that had many Ugandan players abroad in action.

Here is how the Ugandan players abroad fared with their respective teams.

Starting off in England, Uche Ikpeazu Mubiru made an assist as his side Wycombe Wanderers were relegated from the SkyBet English Championship despite humbling Middlesbrough 3-0 in their last game of the season. Jordan Obita was an unused substitute.

Wycombe finished the season in 22nd position on the log with 43 points in 44 games, a point below the relegation line.

In the English League two, Elvis Bwomono featured for 90 minutes as his Southend United side drew 1-all with Newport Country. Southend took an early lead through Shawn Hobson but Mickey Demetriou levelled matters for Newport. Southend was relegated from league two to the National League last weekend.

In Denmark, Moses Opondo was introduced in the 82nd minute and helped his side Odense Boldkub secure a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Robert Kakeeto’s AaB Aalborg in the Danish Superliga. Kakeeto didn’t make the 18-man squad for the team.

In Israel, Luwaga Kizito featured full-time as his Hapoel Kfar Saba suffered a 3-2 loss to Hapoel Haifa in the Israeli Premier league relegation group.

Kizito and Hapoel are already relegated from the Israel top division as they sit bottom on the log with 24 points.

In Turkey, Farouk Miya was once again an unused substitute as his Konyaspor SC defeated Göztepe 1-0 in the Turkish SuperLig. Marko Jevtović netted the lone goal for Konyaspor from the spot in the second half. Miya has now not featured in any of Konyaspor’ last eight games. With the win, Konyaspor sits 11th on the log with 48 points in 38 games.

In Sweden, Ronald Mukiibi featured for 70 minutes as his Ostersunds FK suffered a 1-0 loss to Mjällby in the Swedish Allsvenskan. Another Ugandan, Isaac Ssewankambo featured full-time. After two losses in five games, Ostersunds now sits 12th on the log with 5 points.

Ritah Kivumbi started and featured for 67 minutes as her Mallbacken side secured a 5-0 victory over Sundsvall in the Swedish Elitettan. Mallbacken sits fourth on the log with 7 points in four games.

In Czech republic, Edirisa Lubega provided an assist for Tomáš Pilík as his side, Pribram FC drew 3-all with Viktoria Plzeň in the Czech First league. Pribram sits the second bottom with 21 points in 31 games, five below the relegation line.

In the Czech National Football league, Isaac Muleme featured full-time and got yellow carded as his side, Viktoria Zizkov claimed a 3-1 victory over Vlašim.

In the USA, former KCCA wingback Mustafa Kizza featured full-time as his side, Montreal Impact suffered their first loss of the season after they were beaten by Vancouver 2-0 in the Major League Soccer (MLS).

Still, in MSL, Edward Kizza featured for the last 14 minutes but couldn’t save his New England Revolution from suffering a 2-0 loss to Nashville. Kizza replaced Gustavo Bou in the 76th minute.

In South Africa, Ismail Watenga played the whole 90 minutes as his Chippa United side lost 1-0 to Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila FC in the Nedbank Cup final played at the Free States Stadium. Ndabayithethwa Ndlondlo netted TTM lone goal.

In the DSTV Premiership, Denis Onyango was absent from the Matchday due to engagements with Uganda’s Youth Team in France as his Mamelodi Sundowns side narrowly defeated TS Galaxy 1-0 at the Mbombela Stadium on Sunday. Peter Shalulile netted the goal to extend his Mamelodi’s lead atop to seven points.

In Tanzania, Simba SC game versus Yanga was not played after impromptu changes so Taddeo Lwanga wasn’t in action this weekend.

In Congo, Joseph Ochaya featured for TP Mazembe as they claimed a 2-0 win over Don Bosco in the Congolese Linafoot.

In Zambia, Shafik Batambuze didn’t make it to the Matchday squad as his side, Kabwe Warriors suffered a 2-0 loss to Zanaco FC in the MTN Zambian Premier League.

In Rwanda, Hood Kawesa and Yafesi Mubiru were on the scoresheet for Moses Basena’s coached side Sunrise FC in a 2-0 victory over Espoir FC.

In Egypt, Khalid Aucho was an unused substitute for Misr Lel Makkasa as they drew goalless with Al Masry in the Egyptian Premier League.

Still in the EPL, Emmanuel Okwi started and featured for 80 minutes as his side, Al Ittihad Alexandra drew goalless with ENPPI.
