Diaspora: a teary end for Onyango and Taddeo, Herbert Bockhorn’s Bochum promoted to Germany Bundesliga – how Ugandan professional fared over the weekend

It ended in tears for Denis Onyango And Taddeo Lwanga as their respective clubs were eliminated from the CAF Champions League, while Ugandan defender Herbert Bockhorn helped his side get promoted to the Germany Bundesliga.

Here is how the Ugandan professional abroad fared over the weekend.

Starting off in the CAF Champions league, Denis Onyango was in goal as Mamelodi Sundowns drew 1-all  with Al Ahly in South Africa, getting eliminated at the quarter-final stage after a 3-1 loss. Sundowns lost the first leg 3-1 in Egypt.

Still in the CAF Champions league, Taddeo Lwanga started and was subbed off in the 35th minute with an Injury as his side, Simba SC were also eliminated from the tournament despite winning 3-0 on the day. The Tanzanian club lost the tie 4-3 on aggregate having conceded four unanswered goals in South Africa.

Heading to Sweden, Ritah Kivumbi featured for 52 minutes as her side, Mallbacken IF drew goalless with Kalmar in the Swedish Elitettan.

Mallbacken now sits sixth on the log with 8 points in six games this season.

Ronald Mukiibi started the game but was subbed off injured in the 25th minute as his side, Ostersunds claimed a 3-0 victory over Sirius in the Swedish Allsvenskan. Ostersunds sit 13th on the log with 8 points in 8 games

In Czech republic, Edirisa Lubega featured full-time as his side, Pribram FC suffered a 1-0 loss to FK Pardubice in the Czech First league. With 33 games played, Pribram sits second bottom with 24 points.

In the Czech National Football League, former KCCA wingback Isaac Muleme featured full-time and helped his side, Viktoria Zizkov secure a 5-3 victory over Chrudim. Zizkov sits fourth on the log with 39 points in 25 games.

In USA, Mustafa Kizza was an unused substitute for Montreal Impact as they suffered a 2-1 loss to Cincinnati in Major League Soccer. Montreal has now lost two games in a row and now sit 5th on the log with 8 points.

Edward Kizza featured for the last six minutes as his New England Revolution side claimed a 3-1 victory over NY Red Bulls to move top of the Eastern Conference.

In Kenya, Hashim Ssempala skippered Tusker FC to a 1-all stalemate with Wazito FC at the Utali Complex in the BetKing Kenyan Premier League. Tusker remains top with 38 points in 18 games.

Benjamin Ochan started in goal and kept a cleansheet for AFC Leopards as they drew goalless with Posta Rangers to remain third on the log with 33 points.

William Wadri featured full-time while Umar Kasumba was introduced on for Brian Othieno in the 30th minutes as their Bandari FC side suffered a 3-0 loss to KCB.

In Egypt, Derrick Nsibambi was absent from the Matchday squad as Smouha SC defeated El Entag El Harby 4-2 in the Egyptian Premier League to move to fourth place on the log with 35 points in 23 games.

In Israel, Both Fahad Bayo and Timothy Awanyi didn’t make it to the Matchday squad as Ashdod SC lost 2-0 to Maccabi Haifa in the Israeli Premier league championship round.

In Germany, Herbert Bockhorn helped his side, VFL Bochum secure promotion to Germany Bundesliga after they defeated SV Sandhausen 3-1 to finish top of the 2. Bundesliga with 67 points in 34 games.
