Renowned football analyst and CAF A licensed football coach Charles Ayiekoh ‘Mbuzi’ Lukula has joined Maroons Football Club on an interim basis till the end of the season.
Ayiekoh who has spent most of the 2019/20 season as a studio analyst for the StarTimes Uganda Premier League with Sanyuka TV replaces Daglous Bamweyana who was sacked alongside his entire technical staff last week.
Ayiekoh will be charged with helping the Prisons’ Club survive relegation having fallen from the ‘grace’ they had at the start of the season, into 14th place after 25 games with 24 points having won 6 games, drawing 6 and losing a whole 13.
Ayiekoh beat former BUL FC coach Peter Onen to the Job and will start his duties with immediate effect.
In an exclusive with the Touchline Sports Media, Ayiekoh’s plan to save the league’s oldest club from relegation is inclined towards winning at least 3 games and drawing 2 of their remaining 5 games and will involve the following.
- Improving the player’s fitness levels
- Improving on the players’ attitude
- Instilling teamwork amongst the players
During this period when the league is off, the former Kirinya Jinja SS FC (now Busoga United) coach plans to introduce Maroon’s players to 2 sessions a day, 2 buildup games a week after the Stanbic Uganda Cup week.
If Ayiekoh can save Maroons, his stay at the club will be extended for a period yet to be disclosed.
The former Uganda Super League delegate starts his duties at the Uganda Cup’s round of 16 when his side travels to Kyetume FC at the Mighty Arena this Friday.
I am delighted to be joining Maroons FC and this actually will give me another chance in the top flight’
Ayiekoh said in his interview with the Touchline Sports.
I am committed to saving the club from relegation which will probably improve my chances of staying longer at the Club”
Ayiekoh is one of the coaches who are well versed with the red zone, having saved a number of clubs including Bunamwaya (now Vipers SC) and Busoga United to note but a few. He has also been at Soana (currently Tooro United) and KJT Rwenshama.
