Uganda will have to play against two-time winners DR Congo in next year’s CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN), a tournament for only locally-based players to be hosted by Algeria from January 13th to February 4th.
According to draws held on Saturday evening, Uganda was drawn in Group B together with DR Congo, Senegal and Cote D’Ivoire.
Uganda has failed to go past the group stages during the five times they have played in the tournament that started in 2007 but will this time try to aim higher than that during next year’s edition in Algeria
The East African nation’s quest to perform better than ever will, however, have to encounter a big threat from DR Congo who will come into the tournament having won the most CHAN titles (2)
The draws on Saturday also saw hosts, Algeria pitted against Ethiopia, Libya and Mozambique in Group A.
Group C has the defending champions Morocco , Sudan, Madagascar and Ghana while Group D has Mali, Angola and Mauritania.
Group E has Cameroon, Niger and Congo.
This is the 7th edition of the biennial CAF tournament exclusively for players from the respective national championships.
Morocco are the defending champions having won the last two editions (2018 and 2020).
