The Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) has confirmed dates for both the U17 and U20 AFCON regional qualifiers.
The development was confirmed on Thursday evening after an Executive committee meeting that was held in Arusha, Tanzania on Saturday, 10th October 2020 where a decision to go ahead with the under-age AFCON tournaments was reached.
The U20 AFCON qualifiers will be staged in Tanzania between 22nd November and 6th December 2020 while the U17 qualifiers will be staged in Rwanda between the 13th and 28th December 2020.
The Association further noted that 10 nations have already confirmed their participation in both qualifier tournaments and will, later on, be pooled into two pools, with the top two teams from each pool proceeding to the semifinals.
The confirmed teams include Uganda, Rwanda, Tanzania, Kenya, South Sudan, Sudan, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Djibouti, Burundi, and Somalia.
Uganda are the reigning U17 champions in the CECAFA region having defeated Ethiopia 3-1 in 2018 to qualify for the finals
In the finals in Tanzania, the Uganda Cubs finished in third place in group A that had Nigeria, Angola, and hosts Tanzania.
