Raja Club Athletic have merged winners of the first leg of the CAF Champions League over Joseph Ochaya’s TP Mazembe in a 2-0 home win at Stade Mohammed V on Friday night.

Ben Malango 6′ and Badr Banoun 78′ goals from each half were enough to put Raja Casablanca ahead of TP Mazembe with the second leg awaiting next weekend in Lubumbashi

The host took an early lead through former TP Mazembe forward Ben Malango in the 6th minute when he headed in Sofiane Rahimi’s delivery from the corner

Mazembe could have equalized immediately but Rainford Kalaba’s bicycle kick just missed the target.

The game became tenser with both sides fighting for possession as the first half ended with the hosts leading 1-0.

Mazembe returned stronger after the break and piled pressure on Raja defense winning consecutive corners but without really threatening Anas Zniti between posts for the home side. It was a story of swinging action as both sides exchanged possession but with rare chances at both ends.

Badr Banoun extended Raja’s lead in the 78th minute after heading in Mohsine Moutaouali’s cross from the left wing to widen the hosts’ chance of qualifying for the Semi-finals with a two-goal cushion.

The visitors failed to register any single shot on target through the 90 minutes

TP Mazembe will welcome Raja Club Athletic in Lubumbushi next weekend in the second leg of the quarter-finals.
