Budondo Turacos delivered a fairytale finish to the inaugural Nile Super T10 after defeating Masese Hornbills by five wickets in a thrilling final at the Jinja SS Cricket Ground.
The Turacos, who entered the knockout stage after a challenging league campaign, produced their best performances when it mattered most.
After eliminating league leaders Bugembe Pelicans in the semi-final, they completed their remarkable resurgence by chasing down Masese Hornbills’ total to become the first-ever Nile Super T10 champions.
Opting to bowl after winning the toss, Budondo Turacos’ bowlers set the tone with a disciplined performance, keeping the Hornbills’ powerful batting lineup under control and restricting them to 71/5 in 10 overs.
Edwin Nuwagaba provided the top score for Masese with a quickfire 19 off 11 balls, while Daniel Muhumuza contributed an unbeaten 15 to help his side post a competitive total.
Robert Ajuna was the standout performer with the ball, taking 3 wickets for 13 runs in two overs, while Sowobi Yunus and Sajjabi Ibrahim added a wicket each.
In the chase, the Turacos were tested early after losing wickets, but Mudoola Edgar changed the momentum with an aggressive 21 off nine deliveries.
His attacking cameo was followed by a composed innings from Player of the Match Eddy Agaba , who anchored the chase with an unbeaten 20 off 14 balls.
With the target within reach, Sowobi Yunus kept his composure to hit the winning runs as Budondo reached 72/5 in nine overs, sealing the championship with six balls remaining.
The victory completed a remarkable turnaround for the Turacos, who appeared unlikely contenders after a difficult group stage.
They finished fourth on the standings with only two wins from eight matches, but those victories proved enough to secure a place in the semi-finals.
Their journey to the title was far from straightforward. Budondo began the tournament with defeats against Bugembe Pelicans and Masese Hornbills before recording their first win over Walukuba Eagles.
A setback against Kimaka KingFishers followed, but another victory over Walukuba kept their hopes alive.
When the knockout stage arrived, the Turacos transformed into a completely different side.
They produced a commanding seven-wicket victory over Bugembe Pelicans in the semi-final before overcoming Masese Hornbills in the final to complete one of the most memorable championship runs in Nile Super T10 history.
From struggling during the league phase to lifting the trophy, Budondo Turacos proved that timing and resilience can make all the difference in tournament cricket.
