Bayo impresses on debut as cranes claim top spot

Forward Fahad Bayo scored on his first international debut as the Uganda Cranes outclassed the Malawi Flames 2-0 at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.

On the 16th minute, Forward Fahad Bayo came close to opening the scoreline when a well driven cross from Benson Ochaya nearly found him in the box but Malawian goalie Brighton Munthali’s quick reaction denied the Vipers talisman his first goal.

15 minutes from halftime, the deadlock was broken when Johson Benson Ochaya’s 30-yard cross found Emmanuel Okwi in the opposition goal area to chested the ball down and place the ball into the back of the net to give the cranes the lead.

Farouk Miya had a glorious chance to double the cranes lead before halftime with the keeper well beaten but his effort hit the post and back into play.

Youngstar Allan Okello received a Wonderful reception from the fans as he came on for Kizito Luwagga for his cranes debut in the 67th minute.

On the 69th minute, debutant Fahad Bayo capitalized on Lucky Malata woeful defensive error to double the Crane’s lead with a sublime sole effort past Brighton

Timothy Awanyi replaced injured Murushid Juuko while Taddeo Lwanga was introduced on for midfield maestro Khalid Aucho.

In the other match in group B, Burkina Faso edged past South Sudan in Khartoum courtesy of Aristide Bance’s first half brace.

The Uganda cranes now sit top of the group with 4 points garnered in 2 games while Malawi Flames are third with 3 points.
